Weekend Box Office Top Ten:
GLASS is #1 again in an incredibly low-grossing weekend, earning just $9.5M (Million), good enough for the top spot, bringing the film's total to $88.6M domestic, and $198.9M worldwide. The end of the UNBREAKABLE trilogy is soon to smash through the $200M threshold, which would be 10X its budget of $20M. This has been another big hit for Universal and Blumhouse, ahead of HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U opening this month.
THE UPSIDE held at #2 with $8.8M, a domestic total now of $75.5M, and a very early $81M worldwide, with most of international yet to debut. Produced for $37.5M plus marketing, this film is set to be nicely profitable for STX and all involved.
MISS BALA opened at #3 with a disastrous $6.7M, below even the lowest expectations. This remake was produced for $15M plus marketing, however, meaning it will be a moderate loss for Sony.
AQUAMAN is #4 with $4.7M, a domestic total now of $323.5M, and a stunning $1.106 Billion globally, among the biggest comic book hits of all-time, and a massive success for DC and WB, who hope to keep their winning streak alive with SHAZAM! in April.
SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE is #5 with $4.4M, a domestic total of $175.2M, and $347.2M globally. Produced for $90M plus marketing, this Sony hit will earn more than 4X its budget worldwide before its theatrical run is over, launching a new franchise for the studio.
GREEN BOOK is #6 with $4.3M, a domestic total of $55.8M, and $81.3M worldwide. Produced for $23M plus marketing, this Universal release has demonstrated great holds, and gone on to become profitable for the studio, in addition to an awards winner and front-runner at the Oscars.
THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING is #7 with $4.2M, a domestic total of $13M, and an early $16M worldwide. Produced for $60M plus marketing, this will be a sharp financial loss for Fox.
A DOG'S WAY HOME is #8 with $3.5M, a domestic total of $35.9M, and an early $50.9M worldwide. Produced for $18M plus marketing, this Sony release will be profitable.
ESCAPE ROOM slid to #9 with $2.9M, a domestic total of $52M, and $96M worldwide, set to pass the $100M threshold, in another win for Sony, and the start of a new thriller franchise.
THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD is #10 with $2.4M, and a total of $10.7M, a good number for this Warner Bros. distributed documentary by Peter Jackson.
Next weekend kicks February into high gear, with the release of THE LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART, WHAT MEN WANT, and COLD PURSUIT each hoping to score with their respective audiences.
