More about Karin Cohen

Karin Cohen got her start in the film business working for legendary producer Edward R. Pressman (WALL STREET, REVERSAL OF FORTUNE, BADLANDS), where Ed brought her in on creative sessions for AMERICAN PSYCHO, THE CROW: SALVATION, and ENDURANCE. Following that, she was part of the 4-person creative team that helped grow Summit Entertainment (now owned by Lionsgate) from a prestigious international sales company into a mini-major studio.

Karin’s job at Summit was twofold. She supervised the daily operation of the creative department, which processed over 1,000 pitch and screenplay submissions per year, and she oversaw the development and acquisition of feature films. Projects Karin worked on include MR. & MRS. SMITH, MEMENTO, AMERICAN PIE, CRUEL INTENTIONS, THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, and WRONG TURN, Summit’s first franchise.

Eventually, Karin left the studio side of the business to oversee creative development for several critically acclaimed international filmmakers. She worked alongside them to develop their original feature film and TV concepts from ideation through post-production and served as a liaison between filmmakers, studios, and agencies, representing filmmakers’ creative interests in negotiations. The filmmakers Karin worked with won 173 awards and have another 170 nominations between them, including Academy, BAFTA, and Palme d'Or. Known for her ability to “unlock a script,” Karin has been called a “secret weapon” for writer/directors.
