Karmen Wells is a book editor with experience at major publishing houses like Penguin Random House and HarperCollins where she worked with established writers and talented debut authors from Canada, US, and the UK. Before beginning a career in book publishing, she received an MA in Journalism but dropped everything when she discovered she could work closely with books and took courses in the Publishing Certificate at Ryerson University. Karmen has been an editor for literary agents and knows what grabs their attention, understands market trends, and what risks different publishers are willing to take. After five years in Toronto, she is now a freelance editor based out of Winnipeg with her company, Shelf Made Creative Services and looks forward to spending every day talking about stories. It's her goal to help elevate writers and their stories to the highest possible standard. As an editor, Karmen prefers to guide you to an understanding or to spark an idea so that you can grow as a writer and continue to create better and better stories for her to obsessively consume—it's all quite selfish, really.
