I'm interested in a wide range of genres. For me, it's about character first -- anything compelling starts with great characters that feel real, dimensional, and evolve over the course of a story. Second, it's uniqueness and originality -- whether that be the hook/premise, the tone, the voice, the characters: What subverts the material to make it stand out from the clutter? Does it feel personal? Third, is it commercial and fun. Does it entertain? Regardless of genre, these elements should be infused; I'm of the ethos that film and television, while a balance of art and entertainment, must be entertaining enough to attract buyers in this difficult landscape and drive viewership. It's always critical to have a sense of who the audience is for a particular piece of material.
