Darkly funny character dramas with an unexpected hook; Sardonic, fearless, darkly funny coming-of-age stories; Character-driven, "of-our-world," grounded genre and sci-fi; Smart, literary horror.
In terms of pitching, I don't need a beat-by-beat breakdown of the pilot story, and I definitely don't need a synopsis of each episode in the season. It's important to know where a series goes after the pilot, but try to frame it around broader character and story arcs. Comps to other shows or movies can be really helpful for establishing tone, but be very careful and selective about which ones you pick.
TYLER KNELL is a television producer with over ten years of experience in bringing stories to the small screen, including the upcoming series, TRUE BUSINESS, with actress/producer Millicent Simmonds (A QUIET PLACE). He is the former Director of Development at Circle of Confusion Television Studios, a joint venture between Circle of Confusion and ITV Studios America, where he developed groundbreaking projects with creatives such as Sterlin Harjo, Doug Jung, and Dan Trachtenberg, among many others. Prior to this, Tyler was the Cable & Streaming Development Coordinator at CBS Television Studios, where worked on such shows as POWER (Starz), INCORPORATED (Syfy), and UNBELIEVABLE (Netflix). Born and raised in San Diego, CA with an appreciation for theatre and film, he followed that passion to pursue a film production degree at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, where, among other accomplishments, he received a Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker Grant and produced numerous award-winning short films. Upon graduation, Tyler became a TV Literary Agent Trainee at Paradigm Talent Agency before later transitioning into a career in scripted TV development. An avid sports fan, one can speculate that his penchant for championing underdogs, up-and-comers, and talented longshots over his career in television may stem from years of rooting for his beloved San Diego Padres.
Tyler is a visual thinker with a wide open imagination and serious integrity. He went above & beyond with his careful analysis of my character development, story structure, and story potential. His creative problem-solving is collaborative, not ego-driven.
