DEBBIE CASTANHA lives in Santa Barbara, California. She’s a Black List Feature Writers Lab alum, a Semifinalist at Academy Nicholl, Page and Big Break, and a Finalist at Script Pipeline, Roadmap and ScreenCraft. Born to teenage parents, Debbie’s story is framed by movement: from Alabama to Nebraska, South Carolina to Ohio. She landed in California, where she picked apples, tossed pizza, and cleaned houses to pay for college.
Always “the new girl”, books and film--i.e., story-- helped her make sense of the world. It still does today, in her grounded stories focused on characters and relationships. She recently was signed for a book adaptation and an open writing assignment.
