BIO
LISA GARVEY started in the film industry working primarily in production and eventually landed in development before pursuing writing full-time. She gravitates to the fantastical, and her out-of-the-box genre mashups use dark humor that are thought-provoking, quirky, and fun. Lisa's feature, WALTER VS HIMSELF, was a finalist for the Black List Artist Development Fellowship via Stowe Story Labs. Her work has also placed in the top 2% at AFF, top 15% of Nicholl, and won Script Pipeline’s First Look Project. Her MG novel won an Independent Author Fellowship, and her speculative novella was a finalist for the Sandy Run Novella Award. Lisa's rewrite for Double Eye Productions’ fantasy, FINDING PANDORA X, a live, interactive virtual reality theater performance, won Best VR Immersive User Experience at the Venice International Film Festival and SXSW. Lisa holds an MFA in Cinematic Arts from USC. While not vegan, she loves vegan food made by anyone other than herself.
She believes in the power of storytelling to heal, transform, and connect people. Her screenplays are inspired by strong women, unlikely heroes, second chances, and her big, loud family. A proud Angelino, Charmaine currently writes and teaches in LA.
