If there's one genre that's going to do something new and revolutionary, it's probably scifi. Scifi is such an exciting genre with so much potential, but wrangling the world, the science, characters and theme into a coherent narrative is no easy task. That's why we're here with this four week class to guide you through the development process of your next scifi pilot! 

Limited to only 5 writers, this 4 week class with writer/producer Jess Carson will take you through the development process and get set up for completing the opening pages of your script. Walk away with a solid outline, developed characters, and the opening pages of your scifi pilot.

Working with a higher level writer on your idea/outline is a great way get into the nitty gritty while in a very friendly and collaborative environment.

Week One - Concepts and Characters

Your instructor will begin class with a lecture on how to craft an scifi pilot (structure, plot lines, etc) and give you feedback on your concept and characters and prepare you to write your beat sheet. 

Week Two - Beat Sheet

Jess Carson is a Los Angeles-based Black writer/director who made her way into filmmaking in her hometown of Little Rock, AR by self-producing a number of short films within her local community through trial, error, and a sheer love of the craft.

In 2015, she decided to branch out to hone her skills in more saturated markets – first by way of Brooklyn, NY, where she was hired to write an Off-Broadway musical, ONLY HUMAN, and then settling in Los Angeles, CA in 2018.

Her work spans genres and her focus is on well-rounded, character-driven narratives that resonate with audiences of all demographics as well as those that put society under a lens via undertones of societal commentary.

Most recently, Jess was a writer on the CW's THE FLASH, from the end of season 6 until the end of the show's 9-season run. She is also polishing a wide range of projects and is actively developing a gritty, original TV show, DEAD RED. She is represented by managers Kegan Schell & Abigail Palmer at Navigation Media Group.
