Interview with August Diversity Winner

How long have you been writing and what made you want to write in the first place?
I’ve been writing for the stage since high school and for film as a Theater major in college. However, I am actually returning to writing after about a 20-year hiatus where I worked in corporate and eventually academia. I spent much of the time in-between on music industry endeavors managing recording artists.

What genre do you prefer to write in? What draws you to that genre?
I am interested in writing dramas and thrillers but naturally lean towards comedy within those two. I like watching movies that take me on a roller coaster of emotions including suspense, fear, sadness, and laughter.

Who are the writers that inspire you?
David Mamet, Aaron Sorkin, Shonda Rhimes, Margaret Atwood, Spike Lee, Dan Brown, and James Patterson (not necessarily in that order).

Tell us three things you're currently digging.
Digging traveling around Europe and Hawai’i this summer. I always learn a lot when traveling. I was pleasantly surprised by the movie Alpha and my favorite recent flick is Get Out.

What interested you about Roadmap's Diversity Initiative?
I appreciate that Roadmap is taking a proactive approach to seeking diverse viewpoints and content.
