How long have you been writing and what made you want to write in the first place?
I used to write pop songs as a kid! That evolved into a lot of creative writing, including poetry, short stories, and eventually musicals in high school. I picked up screenwriting in college, and have since found my calling.
What genre do you prefer to write in? What draws you to that genre?
I prefer writing comedic dramas. There's always something funny about a family, and there's always family drama. I draw inspiration from how people interact with each other, how they change themselves to get what they want, and how they deal with conflict. I'm truly drawn to the idea of challenging family tradition in an attempt to assert your identity.
Tell us three things you're currently digging.
Mindhunter, Luce, Synthesizers. Most recently I finished the second season of Mindhunter, it's such a good show! I love the contrast of exploring a serial killer's mind while dealing with family drama and failing to have a normal life. Luce is an incredible movie, it's got such a tight script and there's so much nuanced conflict in the dialogue, I highly recommend! And Synthesizers are just really dope, been digging lots of songs with them, and my partner plays them a lot while I'm writing, it's actually quite motivating!
What interested you about Roadmap's Diversity Initiative?
So excited to be a part of this program. I've always had trouble with talking about myself, and I'm looking forward to learning not only how to pitch a project, but how to pitch myself. I've heard so many good things about Roadmap Writers, I'm happy to finally be involved!
