Weekend Box Office Top Ten:
JOKER opened at #1 with a record-shattering $93.5M (Million) domestic launch and a global haul of $234M, claiming both the top U.S. opening in the month of October and the top global opening for October, both of which previously belonged to VENOM. At a budget which is said to be in the $70-80M range, this film is already profitable for WB after a single weekend, with much more to be earned. The only question now is whether this is a standalone feature, will spawn a sequel, or will see this iteration of the Joker integrated with the Matt Reeves/Robert Pattinson version of BATMAN.
ABOMINABLE is #2 with $12M, a domestic total of $37.8M, and a worldwide total of $76.3M after a disappointing weekend in China. At a budget of $75M plus marketing, this will be a financial loss for Dreamworks Animation and Universal.
DOWNTON ABBEY is #3 with $8M, a domestic total of $73.6M, and an impressive worldwide total of $135.4M for Focus Features/Universal.
HUSTLERS held at #4 with $6.3M, a domestic total of $91.3M, and a worldwide total of $110M. It now looks likely this film will be able to cross the $100M mark in the United States, which will make it only the third film from STX to reach that number, all on a budget of only $20M. This has proven to be one of the biggest early success stories of the fall.
IT: CHAPTER 2 is #5 with $5.3M, a domestic total of $202M, and a global haul of $436.7M for WB. Combined, the two "IT" films have earned more than $1.1 Billion for the studio, making them tremendously profitable.
AD ASTRA fell to #6 with $4.5M, a domestic total of only $43.6M, and $111.3M worldwide. Produced for $100M plus marketing, this will be another financial loss for Fox and Disney since the acquisition.
JUDY is #7 with $4.4M after expanding into 1,458 theaters, and bringing the film's total to $8.9M.
RAMBO: LAST BLOOD is #8 with $3.5M, a domestic total of $39.8M, and a worldwide total of $64.3M. Produced for $50M plus marketing, this actioner will be a financial loss.
WAR is #9 with $1.5M and a total of $2M.
GOOD BOYS is #10 with $900K, a domestic total of $82M, and $107.5M worldwide. Produced for $20M plus marketing, this has been a very nicely profitable R-rated comedy for Universal.
Next weekend sees the domestic debut and global expansion of Will Smith's sci-fi action film GEMINI MAN, the animated version of THE ADDAMS FAMILY, and comedy JEXI all hoping to score with their respective audiences.
