JASON LEW is a writer, director, producer and actor with over 20 years of experience working closely with leading industry professionals like Ron Howard, Issa Rae and Elizabeth Moss.
Lew began his career as an actor and playwright in New York’s Off-Broadway scene before moving to Los Angles where his first screenplay RESTLESS (Sony) was produced by Ron Howard/Brian Grazer and directed by Gus Van Sant. The film premiered at the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL. Following years of developing feature films for major studios and independent producers, Lew directed THE FREE WORLD, an original feature film starring Elizabeth Moss, Octavia Spencer and Boyd Holbrook. The film premiered at the SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL and released by IFC.
In 2016, following a feature film project for Mark Wahlberg, Lew began his career in television, joining the writer’s room for HBO’s BALLERS, starring Dwayne Johnson. Next up was a pilot for HBO developed in close partnership with Lebron James and a two-season stint writing and producing for the HBO sensation INSECURE, created by, and starring, Issa Rae. Recent credits include producing and writing for the limited-series MRS. DAVIS on Peacock, and a Daisy Ridley fronted series THE BETTER LIAR for Amazon.
Lew’s ambitious scripted podcast “BIRDS OF EMPIRE” was nominated for an AMBIE award for best fiction podcast, is currently available across all platforms, and in production for a second season with QCODE.
Lew currently has multiple projects in different phases of development with top studios and independent producers. He has years of experience pitching features and TV to all the major networks. As an actor he worked on a diverse slate of films with roles across from the likes of Forest Whitaker, Adrian Brody, Corey Hawkins, Pablo Schreiber and Joan Chen.
He is a CINEREACH fellow and holds a BA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he also taught classes in self-scripting and acting. He has been a member of multiple expert panels at film festivals from TORONTO to SUNDANCE and has been an active part of the Diversity Equity and Inclusion movement within the film and television space.
