Sonja O'Hara is an Emmy-nominated director represented by The Gotham Group and WME. She was selected as one of the “10 Filmmakers To Watch” by Independent Magazine, chosen by a jury from MovieMaker Magazine, the Sundance Institute, and Austin Film Festival. (Past recipients include Barry Jenkins of MOONLIGHT.) Sonja created the Shudder series DOOMSDAY (“Best Director” - The New York Television Festival) which was described by Indiewire as, “Part MIDSOMMAR, part YELLOWJACKETS, the Daytime Emmy–nominated limited series promises salvation in the sexiest — and scariest — way possible.” Sonja recently finished directing two feature films that were released theatrically: Lionsgate's MID-CENTURY (streaming on NBC’s Peacock) which featured Academy Award nominee Bruce Dern & Stephen Lang of AVATAR, and ROOT LETTER (streaming on TUBI), written by Tribeca Film Festival Narrative Prize winner David Abeltoft. It was described by FilmThreat as "an indie gem displaying a wealth of talent.”
Sonja is currently attached to direct upcoming features for ZERO GRAVITY (Netflix’s OZARK), THE EXCHANGE, and MOJO. Her past films have been Official Selections at The Santa Barbara Film Festival, HollyShorts, Dances With Films, and many more. She has been a Guest Speaker at festivals worldwide, including SXSW.
