BIO
MIGUEL MELO is a writer/filmmaker based in Los Angeles, originally from Mexico. His work is heavily influenced by his Queer and immigrant experience, identity, and flawed family dynamics. He studied performing arts in Mexico City, and Directing and TV Writing in the UCLA Extension Program. He’s a Berlinale Talent, received the NALIP Emerging Content Creators Scholarship in 2019, and was selected for the 2021 HBO’s Tomorrow’s Filmmakers, Today Program. His debut short film Valiente (Brave) premiered at the 2021 Outfest Fusion Film Festival, won an honorable mention at the FICG 35, played at more than 15 film festivals and is streaming on GayBingeTV. His latest short film “This One’s For The Neighborhood” is on the film festival circuit. He worked as a Writers’ PA in the Apple TV+ show “Acapulco” and as a Showrunner's Assistant to Sam Laybourne. He’s a 2024 Disney Writing Program semi-finalist.
