BIO
Black List Recommended screenwriter SUZANNE GRIFFIN creates darkly romantic dramas, often driven by female intelligence and desire, whose fierce, witty protagonists risk everything to reinvent themselves and the world around them. Advocating for her learning-disabled and now college-enrolled son has fueled Suzanne’s passion for narratives that empower outsider voices.
Her themes reflect her journey as a mature female writer: self-determination, alliances among women, and the healing power of empathy. Suzanne was mentored by showrunners JaNeika and JaSheika James (Bel-Air/Gossip Girl), through the WIF Mentoring Program. She is now being mentored by TV genre writer Jane Espenson (GOT/Foundation) through the Pre-WGA Mentoring Program. She’s a Stowe Story Labs/PAGE Awards Fellowship Winner, and a 2x Nicholl Fellowship Semifinalist.
In 2024, Suzanne was selected for the HerArts Film Lab, and named a Finalist for the both Stowe/Bellem Entertainment Fellowship and the Roadmap Writers + Josephson Entertainment Short Story Award. Suzanne was also chosen for the Stowe Story Labs Writers Room to create her new Romantic Horror pilot Brooklyn Gothic.
Suzanne's been a CineStory TV Drama Fellowship Finalist, a Sundance Episodic Lab Second Rounder, and an Austin Film Festival Finalist. Two of her feature drama screenplays, The Italian Lover and The Sleeping House, are Black List Recommended.
Suzanne won the IFP (now, the Gotham) Beigel Screenwriting Award, juried by screenwriter Jay Cocks (A Complete Unknown), who praised her “careening exhilaration of imagination.” Suzanne received her MFA from NYU Grad Film, and lives in Brooklyn, NY - her frequent muse.
