Stories (either 1/2 hour or full hour) the put a fresh spin a familiar genre or trope. Can your project lure me in with a premise I think I'm prepared for, and then send me off in a different direction with confidence and intention?
Also, I'm always drawn to stories that find a way to tap into our cultural anxieties, either directly via plot lines, or indirectly via deftly woven subtext. I find that these are the sorts of stories that stay with us long after we watch them, regardless of genre. Some examples in this vein that come to mind are SQUID GAME, FLEABAG, ATLANTA, BLACK MIRROR, LUPIN, among many others.
In the literary world, my absolutely favorite genre to read is YA fantasy/sci fi. If you can put teenagers into world that demands too much of them, and still respect them as the pubescent messes they are, you've got my attention. I'm also happy to help memoirists find their voices and the through line stories that will truly make their journeys memorable on the page.
In a previous life, Anthony Chin-Quee was a board certified Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat surgeon) with degrees from Harvard University and Emory University School of Medicine. He has published opinions in Forbes and been interviewed by NPR on the topic of systemic racism in medical education.
He switched gears and changed careers several years ago to follow his creative passions full-time. He was a medical consultant for ABC’s GREY'S ANATOMY and a member of the writing staff of FOX’s THE RESIDENT for two seasons, distilling complex medical and social issues into palatable and understandable mainstream storylines.
His memoir, “I Can’t Save You”— a candid account of the ways in which medical residency training shattered the mind of an empathetic, well-intentioned doctor, and the arduous task of piecing it back together again through painful and overdue self-discovery—was released by Riverhead Books on April 4th, 2023 to critical acclaim. He has sold the TV/Film rights to his book to a reputable production company, and has a deal in place to write the pilot script and executive produce should the project be picked up to series.
In other art/performance related endeavors, he has done multiple performances for The Moth, where he’s won their local Story Slam, placed as a runner-up in the Detroit Grand Slam, and performed on their NYC mainstage.
