If you only know one thing about Roadmap Writers, it’s probably that we’ve put a huge amount of time and effort into creating a tiered program to give our writers all the tools they need to have a successful career. We call it the Career Writer Program, and when you’re thinking about taking the dive into Step 1, it can all seem a bit overwhelming.
After all, are multiple monthly programs really going to build your marketing skills and materials? And is taking each step in sequence worth it? What can you expect out of the program?
To answer all this and more, Roadmap is bringing together a wonderfully talented and diverse group of our Career Writers to share their experiences in the program!
This 90-Minute Panel Will Cover:
- Each step of the Career Writer Program
- How to get the most out of Roadmap

Jaime Kawamoto is a proud Japanese-Canadian, currently living in Hamilton, Ontario. She's finally putting that BFA in screenwriting -- with a minor in feminist philosophy -- to good use after a detour into dog rescue. Six of Jaime's genre-bending scripts placed in contests over the last year, most recently as a semifinalist for the Stowe StoryLabs. She uses the comedy chops she honed in the Second City Conservatory to spin trauma and anger into (very) darkly funny social commentary gold. Jaime writes to free the little voice inside her head: a sarcastic cheerleader with a dagger strapped to her thigh who will cut you if you touch her.

Robert A. Douglas is a Baltimorean dedicated to uplifting the voices of marginalized children through various expressions of art. As an author, filmmaker, educator, and producer of podcasts, Robert uses writing to motivate others despite their current circumstances. To date, Robert has published four books (Fertile Concrete, Fertile Concrete II, The New Souls of Black Folk, and On the Border) that gives wheels to his own voice as well as others in underserved communities. Robert also adapted his own book The New Souls of Black Folk into an indie documentary he produced called NEW SOULS; chronically topics from single-parent homes, school to prison pipelines, the homeless epidemic and more. He has also expanded his latest work, On the Border, into a podcast called Reaching the Border where he gives voice to some of his students targeted by various mediums, their own communities, etc. In his downtime, Robert likes to cook, be a recluse out in nature, and spend time with his family.
Growing up on the multicultural island of Maui, Aleks spent his youth chasing perfect waves and sneaking on to private resorts' grounds to jump off their sixty-foot cliffs into the ocean. Aleks then found himself telling action-packed stories of the day's adventures around the beach bonfire. Aleks' gravitation towards storytelling pushed him to bring these colorful and creative insights to Hollywood, where he writes stories centering around underdogs with themes of moral ambiguity and class divide. He attended The University of Alabama, with a major in television and film and a minor in creative writing, winning best story at the school's film festival. He then worked his way up through the assistant channels at CBS Network and eventually transitioned over to the writer's room on CBS’ Magnum P.I, MacGyver, AMC’s The Driver and now ABC’s THE ROOKIE, where he is currently the Writers Assistant. Aleks writes action TV, which includes his young adult crime drama pilot that was just selected as the GRAND PRIZE winner in the 2021 ScreenCraft Action & Adventure Screenplay Competition.
