Work one-on-one with an executive at mutually agreed upon times around your schedule. To start, you'll have a 15-minute strategy call with your executive to get the lay of the land for the month. Then, you’ll have email access to your executive throughout, plus four one-hour story notes sessions. Work on a single screenplay or multiple scripts plus get additional notes on your pitch, brand strategy, and career advice - work your mentorship to its fullest potential!
My personal philosophy when it comes to pitching any story is that the character is the most important part, as the audience is going to follow them on this journey and will answer the why now. If the character is fully fleshed out, usually everything else falls into place, i.e. the themes, concept, world etc. as we learn about them through the character's lens. A good hook is usually the final selling point of what will make the audience want more.
As a writer, my bread and butter is Drama, Sci-Fi, and Mystery. Having worked in rooms with these genres I feel I can provide greater insight on what it takes to bring these stories to life and the types of notes networks give. As well as how we have broken pilot episodes in the room in order to lay the groundwork for the rest of the series.
Jessica Buentello is a Mexican-American Staff Writer on Netflix’s THE MADONNAS OF ECHO PARK. From a small border town called Mission, Texas, she was raised as an only child by a single mother and grandmother. Her reverence for the way Film and Television brought together her bilingual home led her to get a film degree from The University of Texas at Austin, and study filmmaking in Wellington, New Zealand. Previously, she was the Script Coordinator for The CW’s ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO, Apple TV+’s NAHUAL and DEAR EDWARD. When she isn’t writing or taking care of her two massive dogs, she is still recovering from running the 2024 LA Marathon.
Private Month Mentorship
Each month mentorship kicks off with a preliminary 15-min. call to set expectations and lay out strategy for the month. Writer will have email access to the executive plus 4x one-hour consultations with the exec. Exec will read up to 4 scripts in one month (different drafts of the same script or 4 different scripts) and conduct 4x one-hour story notes calls. Calls can also include feedback on your pitch, branding, or career strategy.
If you pay with the deposit/payment plan, your second half will be due the 2nd week of the Mentorship. If you need a different type of payment plan, email dorian@roadmapwriters.com.

What To Expect
