This session includes 2 x 30 minute Zoom meetings.
In the first meeting, the exec will review the feature script OR pilot and bible (if provided) and meet with the writer via Zoom for 30 minutes to provide rewrite notes.
The writer will rewrite their script with the markup switch on and send it back to the exec to read and then meet with the exec via Zoom for a second 30 minutes to receive further feedback on their script.
The more visuals and less text on the screen the better. Allow your audience to engage in the visual while you talk through what they need to know. Mood boards are really important for someone to visualize and see what your project can look like. Character is the most important thing. What is their driving force? Why do we care? What are they hoping to accomplish? Make sure they're multifaceted and not one dimensional. Why this movie? Why now? Why are you the best person suited to tell it?
Finding feature scripts that are in the elevated genre space. Specifically sci-fi, thriller, horror, action and adventure. Also always trying to find a period piece war project (WWI or WWII).
Some examples of films in these spaces are: BLINK TWICE, A QUIET PLACE, BARBARIAN, LONGLEGS, SPEAK NO EVIL, 1917, INDIANA JONES, SICARIO, THE EQUALIZER, ARRIVAL, and ALIEN: ROMULUS.
On the drama side, I'm more inclined toward projects like PAST LIVES, CONCLAVE, and ANATOMY OF A FALL.
Marisa was most recently a Director of Development at STX in the film group. She’s worked on projects like BED REST, NATIONAL CHAMPIONS and GREENLAND: MIGRATION in addition to a lot of other movies that are in development there. Before STX, Marisa worked at Legendary for producer Cale Boyter. While there, she helped work on projects such as DUNE, MINECRAFT, POKÉMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU, THE MACHINE and A CHRISTMAS STORY CHRISTMAS. Marisa started off at WME as an assistant in Motion Picture Lit and TV Lit.
