One question execs ask writers all the time is "why are you the one to tell this story?" It's not always an easy question for us to answer. Sometimes we know right away, but sometimes what draws us to the stories we tell is a mystery to us. But being able to answer this question isn't just important for pitching your work and developing your brand, it's vital to being able to tell a compelling and emotionally impactful story.
Joining us for a conversation on all this and more, Roadmap welcomes Chris Courtney Martin to the webinar stage!
This 90 Minute Webinar Will Cover:
- You as the muse
- Finding the "you" in assignments
- The self-insert character
- Theme and asking the tough questions (of yourself)
Chris Courtney Martin hails from Philadelphia, where they were introduced to their craft through scary stories, vivid nightmares, and VHS rentals.
In high school, Martin placed in the Philadelphia Young Playwrights competition three years out of four and was honored with a staged reading at the historic Wilma Theatre. After receiving the prestigious Liberty scholarship, Martin started Drexel University's Screenwriting & Playwriting program, where they switched gears to focus on screenwriting. Martin graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree from Drexel's SCRP program, as well as minors in Film & Video and Art History. Martin has since won/placed in several screenwriting competitions (including Urbanworld and Emerging Screenwriters) and received promotion via the 2018 Young & Hungry List, 2018 Bitch List and ISA's Top 25 Screenwriters to Watch in 2019. Martin coined the motto "craft with conscience," which expresses their passion for producing socially relevant/politically progressive works and maintaining artistic integrity. Martin's upcoming feature projects CHARCUTERIE and PALE HORSE were announced in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
Recently, Martin came out as a Non-Binary Womxn and accepts the pronouns They/Them/Theirs and She/Her/Hers.
